Food Sourcing Service Member

Reports to: Food Sourcing Manager
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. with some flexibility, unless attending AmeriCorps events or meetings.
The schedule may include some evening and weekends to support food drives and special events.

General Description of the Position:
Food Drive Coordination

The Service Member will work with the Food Sourcing Manager to execute four primary food drives in WNC – the Mountain State Fair, Ingles Giving Tree/Holiday Food Drives, National Association of Letter Carriers, and Student Food Drive

The Service Member will facilitate food drive drop offs and collections including logistics and receiving of the food

Train and supervise core groups of volunteers for food drives and other food sourcing events

Gather and implement feedback to update standard operating procedures for food drives 
Food Sourcing Data & Research

Assists the Food Sourcing and Inventory team in auditing and updating item codes in the database to preserve item code integrity and nutritional rankings

Collaborate with the Food Sourcing Team on additional donor and sourcing outreach. Includes retailers, manufacturers, processors, small farms, and agricultural partners in WNC

Work cross-departmentally to understand the flow of food through the food bank and how food sourcing decisions impact neighbor access to food. This includes shadowing colleagues, working shifts in the warehouse, and attending distributions.
Farm to Agency Direct Match Program

Seek out direction and insight from Feeding America and other food banks that have similar programs around small farm partnerships

Assist Food Sourcing and Agency Relations teams in establishing a farm to agency direct match program
Principal Activities of the Position:
Food Drive Coordination

Support in the execution of primary food drives for the organization

Engages with the community during food drives

Utilizes inventory management software to receive food drive donations

Provides feedback on the annual Food Drive work plan.

Represents MANNA as needed at food drive and food sourcing meetings and delivers presentations

Data & Research

Assists the Food Sourcing team in all aspects of research and analysis of best practices in regards to additional food drives as well as sourcing of new food donors for the organization
Small Farm Agency Match Project

Assists with research and analysis of small farms in MANNA’s service area

Assists with overlay of our partners and those farms for future work on matching for produce donations to the partner

Assists with matching process
Working Conditions:
Work will be performed in a dual office and warehouse environment; as well as community and event sites. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, etc. This role will require the operation of appropriate load handling equipment such as pallet jacks when facilitating food drive receiving. The AmeriCorps member is sometimes required to work in outdoor conditions as required by the event. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands required are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
The physical demands of this position are considered medium work. While performing job duties the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and move objects up to 25lbs. and occasionally up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities require the visual acuity to operate motor vehicles; close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Travel:
Routine moderate travel is required within the service area
The AmeriCorp member must provide proof of current, valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
Schedule: Availability to work a flexible schedule Monday – Friday to be agreed upon with immediate supervisor.  Occasional evening or weekend work as needed.
