The Healthy Opportunities Pilot (HOP) is a program through North Carolina Health and Human Services that enables eligible Managed Medicaid enrollees to receive healthy food boxes through Bounty & Soul. The Community Food Distribution Assistant will support the HOP program through shopping, food preparation, and food delivery to community members enrolled in the program. The Pilot is the first of its kind nationally and is being strenuously tracked for success. This is an excellent opportunity to participate in and understand the formation of innovative health programming. This is the role in which the AmeriCorps member will spend approximately 25 of their weekly hours. This role will have significant client-facing interactions.

The Benevolent Box Program is part of Bounty & Soul’s Produce to the People™ initiative, whereby healthy food boxes are delivered to the homes of individuals and families who experience barriers to accessing our regular community markets. The Community Food Distribution Assistant will support the Benevolent Box service by conducting quarterly communications with BB enrollees, assessing their needs; as well as enrolling new community members who request the service. They will work with our Director of Community Engagement to ensure that new enrollees can be included in existing volunteer delivery routes. The Food Distribution Volunteer Hub is the site where all donated food comes into Bounty & Soul, to be culled, sorted, and prepared for market- mostly by volunteers. The Community Food Distribution Assistant will direct and support Bounty & Soul volunteers in these activities at the Volunteer Hub, paying attention especially to Benevolence Boxes. They will work with the Food Distribution Manager in these tasks and will collaborate with the Director of Community Engagement to fulfill the needs of volunteer shifts in the Hub throughout the week.
