Job Description: AHOPE AmeriCorps Associate Community Advocate 

 

Overview: AHOPE Day Center is the front door to our agency and to the community’s homeless service system. AHOPE provides basic services (showers, mail, phone, storage) and staff that work to build relationships that lead people out of homelessness and into permanent housing. The AHOPE AmeriCorps Associate Community Advocate is a source of support and guidance to individuals experiencing homelessness in Asheville/Buncombe County. This position focuses on providing basic services to our clients. This person should be in pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree preferably in human services, social services. Most importantly, we are looking for individuals that have passion for the work and compassion for all people experiencing homelessness in our community, no exceptions.

Schedule and compensation: This is a full time AmeriCorps Member position

 

Responsibilities:

● Ensure that community member interactions are person-centered, goal-focused. ● Shadow and support Homeward Bound/AHOPE staff.

● Ensure accuracy of services provided.

● Build a base of knowledge rooted in educational goals, community resources and the work of Homeward Bound.

● Gain experience in all phases of Homeward Bound’s Homeless Services Department.

● Build professional relationships with community members and community partners.

● Exercise patience, understanding, and concern for each community member’s well-being, safety, development, and enjoyment of life

● Attend weekly case management meetings and other specified meetings/trainings as required.

● Effectively communicate in oral and written forms with community members, their families, and their significant others, coworkers, supervisors, other service agencies and the community.

● Proficiently operate a personal computer, fax machine, printer, and copier.

● Participate in the daily cleaning and daily chores for the AHOPE main areas.

● Operations of the main areas to include, but not limited to: Signing clients in, assistance with hygiene supplies and lockers, vouchers and referrals, crisis intervention.
